The closer to the lure the more immediate the lure is acted upon, the further way the sinker is the more gradual the action on the lure is. 90% of the time we run the wt only 6' ahead with a rubber band with water temps over 50 degrees. I adjust slightly depending on the depth a crank will run with 30 feet of line according to the Troller's Bible.
